Procedures and Expectations

Welcome to Mrs. Hatch’s 3rd Grade
Birthdays
In our classroom we will celebrate birthdays. Before we celebrate it, I will send home a note with the date and time we will celebrate it as well as a few questions for your child to answer about themselves. You are welcome to send treats in to share with the class. I will make you aware of any allergies we may have in the class so we do not have to leave any students out of the birthday celebration. You are more than welcome to join us for this celebration.

Homework
Homework will be given out every day except for Friday. Students will need to complete the following homework each night and may have a few additional homework assignments:
·         Math problems
·         Read 20 minutes
·         Practice Spelling
If students do not complete their homework they will be required to finish it and turn it in as soon as possible. I will keep you aware of any missing homework assignments. These assignments are part of the grades and should be completed.

Parent Volunteers
Parents are always welcome in the classroom. There are many things that I would love help with. I will need volunteers for the following things:
·         Math Master
·         Math
·         Parties (Halloween, Christmas, etc.)
·         Art

Permission Slips
Each family is very different and may have different guidelines for movies and books. I want these to be acknowledged in my classroom as best as I can. I will send out a permission slip at the beginning of the year for permission to watch PG movies. If you want to be aware of each individual movie, I will send out a permission slip if it is anything more than rated G. I will NEVER show a movie that is more than rated PG. If you have any concerns please email me or contact me in another way.
If there are any field trips, I will send home information about it with plenty of advance notice.

Newsletters
Each week I will email a newsletter about the homework for that week, what we are doing in class, and, if needed, updates on your child’s behavior. If you do not get email or do not check it and would still like these updates, please let me know so I can send a hard copy home with your child each week.

Student Behavior
In my classroom there are high expectations for my students. There will be no bullying, swearing, name calling, running, or other behaviors. If a student struggles with behavior in my class I may start them on a behavior plan that I would discuss with you. There will be consequences for their actions in my classroom and these consequences will be decided by both me and the student. I will try my best to make sure the consequence matches with what they did wrong.

Daily 5
Each day the students will do Daily 5. On these days they will do 3 rotations. The Daily 5 rotations include:
·         Read to Self
·         Read to Someone
·         Word Work
·         Listen to Reading
·         Writing
Students will be required to complete 3 of these each day. This will give students time to work on all areas of Language Arts in an individual setting. Also, during this time I will pull students back to work with me on anything they may need extra help on.

Math Master
Students will be given short math fact tests to practice their math facts. Each morning we will practice these tests and then take the test on Friday. Students can earn beads and cool dog tags. A sheet will be sent home to practice outside of school.

Allergies
If you child has any allergies please make sure I am aware of them. I want your child to be safe in my classroom. Students may bring in treats for their birthday and I want everyone to be included.

Accommodation

If your child is struggling or excelling in any area I will call and set up a conference with you to see what we can do to better help your child. Some things that can be done is extra time with the teacher, extra activities that will challenge your child, or anything else we may decide.
